10 daily routines to boost your metabolism

10 daily routines to boost your metabolism

10 Tips

Drink A Glass of Ice Water First Thing In The Morning

Keeping your metabolism working at its finest can start as soon as you wake up. Drinking a glass of cold water in the morning will help get your blood flowing, which boosts metabolism. Your body will also burn more calories drinking cold water versus hot water as your body needs to work harder to heat the cold water. Practice staying hydrated throughout the day as well. Drinking plenty of water will help ensure your metabolism is performing at its best. Drink a minimum of 8-12, eight-ounce glasses of water per day.

Don't Skip Meals

Be sure to eat smaller meals every 3-4 hours. When you eat large meals with many hours in between, your metabolism will slow down in between meals as your body will begin storing calories as fat instead of burning them for energy.

Get More Vitamin D

Vitamin D, known as the “sunshine vitamin” is essential for protecting metabolism-boosting muscle tissue. However, research shows only an estimated 20% of Americans receive enough vitamin D in their diet. 2000IU’s of vitamin D are an optimal amount of vitamin D per day for adults especially if you're not exposed to direct sunlight often. Natural sources of vitamin D besides the sun are salmon, eggs, whole-grain cereal, and tuna.

Replace Cooking Fats With Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has endless health and wellness uses ranging from skin and oral health to weight loss & more. Coconut oil is an excellent alternative to traditional cooking fats and oils. As coconut oil is high in medium-chain fats, it can increase your metabolism at a higher rate compared to long-chain fats found in foods like butter :)

Eat Spicy Foods

If you’re a fan of Thai food, you’re in luck! However, there are tons of spicy foods you can eat to rev up your metabolism. Eating peppers is a great way to start as they contain capsaicinoids, which can boost metabolism as they have a thermogenic effect. Studies have shown that a spicy meal can increase your metabolism by 8% over someone’s normal rate.

Get Your Micronutrients

We totally get how it is when you’re so busy at times that your healthy eating and exercise routine gets put on the back burner. However, supplementing your diet with vitamins and minerals can be a quick, easy fix. Stock up on vitamins C, E, B & D as they’ve been shown to promote a fast metabolism :)

Lift Weights

Since muscle requires more calories than fat, the more muscle you gain, the quicker your body will burn calories. There are numerous ways to incorporate strength training routine as a part of your lifestyle such as going to the gym, rock climbing, in-home bodyweight exercises & more.

Optimize Your Sleep Schedule

Making sure you’re getting necessary sleep is essential. 7-9 hours of sleep per night is recommended. A lack of sleep decreases your impulse control, making it more difficult to say "no" to junk foods and the amount of which you’re eating.

Ease Up!

According to numerous studies, stress has a direct correlation to weight gain and a decrease in metabolism speed.

In order to unblock the natural flow of energy through your body, you should make it a daily habit to find a quiet place and relax for at least fifteen minutes by doing deep breathing exercises, yoga, or meditation. This way, your body will get its daily stress relief and enough oxygen to keep your metabolism healthy and running at its best.

Switch To Green Tea

Unlike coffee, which provides a short term stimulus, green tea is an antioxidant-rich alternative that helps your body increase heat production in your body, known as “thermogenesis” by converting fat into a form of energy. Green tea & oolong tea are our favorite effective teas to boost metabolism.
